 Review: Water Wise for schools comprises two free downloadable resources ´Down the Drain´ and ´A Drip in Time´. ´Down the Drain´ uses a realistic scenario of the building of a new wastewater treatment works as the focus for an extended class debate. Interest group profiles, factsheets and sample campaign literature provide a balanced and realistic set of viewpoints from groups that include the local authority, campaigning groups, residents and Southern Water.Pupils explore the issues surrounding the building of a new works, research their ´case´ as they adopt a specific point of view and mount a ´campaign´ to promote their views to the other participants.´A Drip in Time´ highlights personal responsibility for water use. Pupils survey how much water they and their families use. Class and community data is used to build a ´bigger picture´ of their direct and indirect water use. Pupils develop campaign materials to support water efficiency at home and an understanding of the many ways in which we use, and can waste, our water supply. |
