Review: This is the site for International Developmental Educational Advisory Services and in particular, Alan Peat. The site is advertising his services, but it is also doing more. There are a range of essays that are of interest to teachers including ones titled 'Helping pupils to develop more effective characters in their story writing' and 'Developing story writing in the Infant classroom'. The articles are worth reading, but they are essays and so if you are looking for lessons plans or immediately useable resources, you may be disappointed. This is a good site for primary teachers.
Review: Students have no need to get bored during school holidays with The Zone, an interactive website from Devon County Library Service featuring M@x the cyber dog. Young users can take part in activities and competitions designed to promote reading and the use of libraries. There are also games, jokes and puzzles. They can find out about authors, submit their own poems or send in artwork. An ideal site for teachers or students looking for literary inspiration to brighten up lessons or spare time.
Review: This is part of a creative site for children. It encourages creative efforts in arts, multimedia, music, writing and poetry. The arts section features work by a new young artist every month while the multimedia section provides interactive adventure stories. The music section showcases composition by young musicians as well as music quizzes and interviews with musicians. The other sections contains creative writing. The overall site can be used to generate ideas for creative activities and creative writing. On the down side, the pages take a long time to download.
Review: This site is an electronic illustrated book where the children can turn the pages as they like, meet the author, ask questions of the writing and answer an on-line quiz about what they have read. An added feature is the fact that the book can be read in both French and Welsh for early learners in these languages. The story is quite short. It could be used as a model for your students' own writing. It is one of several stories that are part of a larger site called 'Sebastian Swan's Infant Explorer'.
