Countdown * * * * *

Countdown

Mainly suitable for:
Well suited for use in UK schools KS2, KS3
Review: Interactive Countdown numbers and letters game. The game is based on the popular television programme Countdown. In the numbers option you choose your numbers by size and then select a target number. You have a choice of having an on screen notepad and calculator. This would be a good game to play on an Interactive Whiteboard. The timer gives you 30 seconds to find the answer, but you do not need to start it straight away so you can give children more time. The letters game is similar; you choose vowels and consonants and then try to make the biggest word. The only drawback is that there is no Carol Voderman or Giles Brandreth to give possible solutions!

Playground Rhymes

Mainly suitable for:
Well suited for use in UK schools KS1, KS2
Review: Written by Junior students for the student section of Woodlands Junior School web site this is a useful page for anyone wanting to learn about different rhymes and for teachers delivering the Literacy curriculum for Year 1, Term 2 – Playground chants, action verses and rhymes. It would be excellent to use on an interactive whiteboard. Children could read and learn to recite the rhymes and the actions that go with them. There is an excellent section on skipping rhymes that includes an explanation of some of the words used in the rhymes. There is a section on clapping games, that could be linked to the music curriculum. The page on the schools use of playground games shows children actually playing the games, with the instructions and the links to ‘Games we play in England’ and ‘Games around the World’ would enable children to compare games and see different versions.
