This is a web based activity in which pupils (and staff) pick their fantasy football team and score points through the football season depending on how well their players perform in real matches. The package is aimed at boys and girls at Key Stages 2, 3 and 4 with ideas and printable resources provided for teachers specifically in maths and ICT, but also in science, design technology, citizenship, english and history.

The Schools Fantasy League (SFL) run the activity and provide everything for schools and participants through their website (www.schoolsfl.com), including personalised weekly league tables, local, regional and national competitions, monthly awards certificates and end of season medals and trophies (supplied free by SFL).

This CD-ROM supports the teaching of GCSE and PE utilising a variety of ICT skills. The content is relevant to all syllabuses and can be used to supplement and enrich theory lessons, rather than replace them. Topics covered
include: underpinning knowledge (anatomy), somatotyping, analysis of performance, and developing a personal exercise programme. Each area is broken down into sub-sections: information about each topic, an activity for students to complete and extension activities.

The software offers opportunities for students to demonstrate their understanding by completing numerous interactive activities, and to further develop their knowledge
through website links. The software can also be used by the teacher and projected onto a screen or interactive whiteboard in lessons to introduce activities and outline practical sessions.

Memory-Map’s range of digital mapping software includes street atlases, nautical, airfield, 1:250 000, 1:50 000, 1:25 000 and aerial photographic maps. Memory-Map allows students to view this wide range of maps and aerial photographs allowing students to plan routes, check distance, height covered and travel time data. The advanced facilities allow students to view the maps in 3D format, enabling them to view the relief of the land, taking into account the contours. A ‘spin’ tool rotates the map so that all aspects of the relief can be viewed, whilst a ‘fly’ tool allows students to fly over a route they have set.

As well as marking specific points on maps and aerial photographs, students can create customised routes and trails, inserting comments, icons and their own digital photographs on maps.

Primary Games Vol.3 provides a wide range of highly engaging and enjoyable mathematical games for use with an interactive whiteboard, allowing children to learn whilst having fun.

I used it with the whole class, demonstrating and allowing pupils to interact and discuss key concepts, children can also work in pairs, individually or use customised worksheets. This visual and auditory teaching and learning is good for all children, particularly for the less able children who benefit from the repetition of basic skills. The differentiated activities with easy to follow links to the National Numeracy Strategy allow a range of pupils to benefit from this resource, with activities ranging from fun gridstyle activities to animated screens where hens
lay eggs and divers recover treasure! Great fun and good motivation for children!

Rhythm Maker

Authentik Language Learning Resource Ltd

This product provides a wealth of digital language resources for both A-level and GCSE exam preparation in Spanish, French and German. Its key purpose is to promote independent learning using authentic materials.

AuthentikDigital.com may be used individually; indeed, this is encouraged by including the fun and games section through the use of league tables, although this will also facilitate whole class exploitation of the site. The site is very easy to navigate and students have no difficulty in finding relevant articles from such renowned sources as Télérama which, of course, saves on individual subscription charges.

AuthentikDigital.com sells itself insofar as it gathers all up-to-date resources and enables the willing learner to exploit them. Additional magazines and books are also available from the site directly related to the National Curriculum both of British and Irish examination boards.

Rhythm Maker is a simple-to-use piece of software making learning fun, and encouraging experimenting and creativity in children, allowing them to compose rhythms of increasing
complexity. The software is designed for KS2 and 3, but some parts would be suitable for KS1. Up to 47 percussion instruments are available. Different time signatures can be
set, both simple and compound, as can the number of bars for the pattern. The resolution is also easily configurable. Simple changes can be made to the patterns and the finished patterns can be put together to make a track
and saved.

It is intended to allow children to learn and practise the elements of rhythm, with both audio and visual feedback. They may start with the very simple and work up to some quite sophisticated patterns.

This web based package is designed for making a school website that can be easily updated from any computer with internet access. It provides teachers with the facility to quickly and easily create content relevant to the topics they are teaching andcan be used to teach children to create their own web pages.
The product is quick and intuitive, so children can begin to add content to their web pages from the first session.

Teachers can quickly set up pages, which can be easily accessed by the children for class or homework use. Web Mountain supports the National Curriculum and is a fantastic tool for embedding ICT across the whole curriculum.

Digital Worlds is a powerful primary teaching resource which is specifically designed for the local area around your school. The collection of sources contained in the software includes: aerial photographs; satellite images; OS and
historical maps; topographical images and localised census data. Maps can be manipulated and examined in any way and new layers can be placed over maps to allow highlighting to enhance analysis.

This really is a versatile tool, which can be applied across a range of subjects. The obvious application being a local study in either geography or history, however the software includes writing lessons for the Literacy Hour, maths, music, art and citizenship. The images are of a very high quality and look brilliant when projected onto an interactive
whiteboard. The children were fully engaged throughout.
