SNAP is a ‘wide angle’ and ‘in-depth’ diagnostic resource (not a test) for use specifically by a SENCO or special needs learning support assistant. It provides a systematic and comprehensive overview of a child’s specific learning difficulties (SpLDs). It is aimed at the 5-14 age range and is a carefully constructed computer program that matches a child’s data (which is entered into the software) against checklists for 15 SpLD’s to help identify those which seem to be most prominent. It reports back with an analysis of the ‘blend’ of SpLD’s that make up the child’s particular learning difficulties and then generates ‘self-help’ and information sheets which can be shared with parents. These sheets extremely useful as they suggest activities and ideas to enhance the educational provision for children with specific needs.

This is an Interactive Whiteboard title that provides clear on-screen resources to aid the teaching of money. Differentiated activities allow older KS1 and all KS2 year groups to benefit from this resource. From coin recognition screens to shopping activities where the child has to select the right coins to match the price of an item there are plenty of opportunities for children to familiarise themselves with the different denominations and understand the concept of buying and receiving change.

There are enough activities to keep the children interested, the graphics and instructions are large format, clear and unfussy and although clearly designed to be used on an IWB it can easily be adapted to an ICT suite with either Class Demo for class-work or for individual use.

Activities have been designed with the usage of the children at the forefront, with animations, and eye-catching cartoon style graphics. With an easy to use interface, designed to minimise the need for a high-level user skills, children find them non-threatening and easy to use, quickly becoming confident.

In essence, the Learnpremium resource is making the teaching and learning of mathematics fun and exciting whilst developing children’s understanding of maths using ICT. This is an invaluable teaching tool for today’s classroom.

Learnpremium is an extremely large, comprehensive online resource. It is divided into five easy-to-navigate areas which include a library of articles from Education Guardian archives as well as Flash animations, tests, a news desk and curriculum resources.

The interactive exercises are extremely attractive and very pupil-friendly, with easy to follow instructions. These would be best used as extension activities for a small number of pupils, as the language used verges on GCSE level.

In conclusion, Learnpremium is an excellent and extremely large resource which could well prove invaluable as a teaching aid.

Flex-iNotes (or ‘FiN’) is aimed at teachers who are looking for a piece of software to help organise, catalogue and combine their resources as well as providing a number of resources of its own. Furthermore, it allows you to prepare PowerPoint and html (web-page) multimedia presentations from your catalogue of resources.

The product comes as a standalone package that installs easily onto a PC. A department computer with access to shared folders would be ideal.

Resources are well suited to illustrating a number of points, perhaps even helping iron out a few and can provoke valuable discussion.

There are a number of nice animations that illustrate concepts well; in particular we liked the Bond Energy graphs; 3-D structures of diamond, sodium chloride and graphite and the Hydrocarbon animations.

Of particular use was the Mitochondria animation, the ATP demonstration and the Osmosis simulations. The budding Hydra brought a smile to our faces.

The ‘Electrons in a circuit’ animation is particularly effective and the useful animations in the Forces and Motion section also helped stimulate collaborative work. Not all of the Knowledge Points are provided with resources, so you will have to get your own resources at some point to supplement these areas.

Creating a presentation is fairly straightforward – select a Knowledge Point from one of the nodes of the syllabus tree, create a new theme (i.e. presentation), upon which PowerPoint opens up, and finally add your previously catalogued resources from the resources window. To take full advantage of this software, you need to already have taken the time to catalogue your resources.

This website is aimed at the lower end of the primary school to provide pupils with a stimulating and motivating way to revise KS 1 English.

The revision-zone allows pupils to navigate easily through a series of activities which will appeal to a wide range of abilities. These include activities which help to revise word and sentence work such as verbs, adverbs and punctuation together with ideas for improving writing stories and letters. They include interactive tests which provide the children with instant answers to help to revise the areas that have been covered.

The content is accurate, age appropriate and current and the vocabulary is also and clear. It would be a useful revision to consolidate work already carried out in KS1 English.
