This is an on- or off-line bilingual dictionary that can be used to aid comprehension of an article or to search for a word translation.

It contains over 175,000 words and phrases and 270,000 translations, which are extremely quick, and, when in Internet Explorer, it is sufficient simply to hover the mouse over a word. This word then appears automatically (no need to cut and paste) in the box attached to the toolbar, and the search results are offered to you in a simple and unobtrusive manner. If a word is to be found in both languages, results are offered from both, with the option of seeing the full details from either language.

This would be extremely useful for Modern Language teachers of any age-group, but more specifically it could be used as an interesting and easy-to-understand way of introducing children to dictionary work.

Doki Spanish takes you to a vibrant city with many places of interest that immerses the user in a virtual cartoon world where they interact with the Doki characters.

There are several interesting features, for example, in the Toolbox you will have the assistance of the Pictionary which rather than translating the vocabulary for you, provides you with a picture which will quickly enable the students to retain the meaning of the words. It also says the word, which ensures that the correct pronunciation is being reinforced.

Students are able to enter the chatroom where they can communicate with other online learners. There is also a talking calculator which is an extremely useful element.. There is the 'footprint' which will help you to retrace your steps through the city and finally there is a record and playback facility.

History Live is a unique resource of film and news footage of key events in the Twentieth Century using hours of archive material from the ITN vaults occupying 5 CD ROMs.

Students can use this material as the basis to complete assignments (several are provided) based on the main topic areas of twentieth century history.

History Live is primarily aimed at KS3 students but the software is so good that is can be used by GCSE and Post 16 students as well and should become an invaluable tool for teaching modern world history. By providing so much primary material History Live ensures that never again will teachers of Modern World History be able to complain that they are unable to teach students how to analyse, evaluate and 'use' primary materials.

This is a very useful programme that contains eight datasets, which provide a bank of statistical data (over 2000 tables) for use in Business Studies, Economics, Geography, History and Social Sciences.

Using clear menu commands, students can change and analyse data using common statistical modes of analysis, such as average growth rates or correlation. It is also possible to create saveable .bmp graphs and charts to illustrate the data, and to generate maps when using certain databases.

The programme is well set out and designed, and provides a wealth of data for students to use. It allows for teachers to create their own databases, and the menu driven method of analysing the data is well done.
