Easiteach Literacy is a
set of flexible teaching tools containing
Literacy resources for Key Stages 1 and
2. Its potential lies mainly in whole class
teaching but it could be used by groups
of pupils too. Easiteach is designed for
use with any interactive whiteboard but
works effectively with a projector and screen.
All work was clearly visible to the whole
class and a cordless keyboard and mouse
enabled pupils to be fully engaged.
Easiteach is simple to
use from the start but can be extended as
far your imagination and confidence allows.
The applications for this
software are infinite. Almost any word,
sentence or text level activity that teachers
would include in a Literacy lesson can be
recreated. Features include the facility
to create cloze text, to design your own
writing frames, to set a timer on an on-screen
activity and to make cards for word or sentence
building. Handwriting recognition is a useful
feature if you have an interactive board.
Literacy content includes texts and writing
frames (with lesson plan notes linked to
termly objectives), word banks and clip
art. Your own text, pictures, video and
sound can be added and you can create and
save your own files.
Easiteach can be used as
a presentation tool for other curriculum
areas and a Numeracy pack can be purchased
and added.
Easiteach demands some
commitment from teachers if its full potential
is to be realised but I found it to be well
designed and supported. The pupils were
engaged by both the interactive activities
we designed for them and those that were
included in the package, and the software
enabled us to meet both Literacy and ICT
objectives.

This is an excellent resource
for students studying World War II, relating
directly to National Curriculum KS3 studies.
The overall theme of the unit is "How
did life in Britain change during World
War Two?". The objectives are clearly
stated- Find out about what life was like
during the Blitz, Look at how the war changed
women's lives, Discover what evacuation
was really like for children and Decide
for yourself how much British life changed
during World War Two. Topics covered are
The Blitz | Evacuation | Country Life |
Women at War | War Work.
There is an excellent Lesson
Summary section at the end which encourages
the consideration of all of the evidence
to formulate an understanding of the effects
of the war on British life, and to compare
that with students' initial responses at
the start of the unit.
The unit contains numerous
interactive features, with text, photos,
Flash animations and video sequences providing
the sources of information.
Of particular use are the
sentence starters which assist students
in their written answers. Students may log
on individually, and work is saved so that
it may be continued another time. Teachers
may view this work at any time. This makes
this resource suitable for class use on
the school network, or for homework.
