Holiday cottage in Hay on Wye
Please call Elizabeth Collie on 01242 513497 if you'd like to rent a house in Hay-on-Wye, sleeping six in 3 large double beds.  Hay Festival 08 and 09 - booked, sorry.

Hay on Wye is set between the River Wye and the Brecon Beacons right on the border of England and Wales.  It's a quiet haven, with a wonderful atomosphere - lots of nice shops, cafes and pubs surrounded by beautiful countryside.  You could spend whole days in some of the bookshops alone.

Given its position, Hay is also an outdoor activities centre with kayaking, walking and mountain biking high on the agenda and easily booked within the town.

The town is a delightful mix of secondhand bookshops (for which it is famed), good pubs, independent clothing, art and antique shops. It hosts the world famous Hay Festival and there are many cultural events the year round.

Beyond Hay are beautiful villages, lakes, caves and mountains - lots to explore and do for everyone.  See the Hay-on-Wye tourism website for some of them.

Hay is on the edge of one of the UK's finest national parks: the Brecon Beacons

Maps and pics

4 Smallbrook Terrace, Heol y Dwr is a cottagey town house, only a few hundred yards from the centre of town and two minutes walk from the River Wye and its woodland paths and cycle routes.

It has large, comfortable beds, a log fire and is suitable for dogs, children and muddy walkers (that's us!).  And there's not TV or telephone - it's very peaceful and has lovely views to the hills when you sit in bed.

Ten minutes strolling through the woods brings you to The Warren where river swimming and reading the paper on the pebble "beach" is enjoyed by locals in the summer.

When you're here

Quotes from guests:

"The cottage is wonderful - very cosy on a damp, cool evening - and a perfect location to explore the town.  We've done a superb walk in the Brecon Beacons and now off to the Three Tuns for Sunday lunch.  We'll definitely be back."

"It's been a warm, comfortable retreat for the first cold week of the oncoming winter"

"We loved lazing by the log fire and we especially enjoyed the no TV"

"We really enjoyed ourselves!  There was a general consensus that due to the number of good books and board games and cds etc at the house, we could have stayed there for another 3 days and still wouldn't have wanted to leave."

The accomodation:

The house has three double bedrooms (all with kingsize beds, wardrobes and bedside cabinets) a modern fitted kitchen, full central heating, washing machine & tumble drier, fridge and hot water on demand. On the more romantic front there is a lovely open fire in the living room.

Across the cobbled rear yard is a stone terrace garden facing out over gardens and to the hills beyond. Garden furniture is in the adjoining shed.

Pricing: £350 - £500 per week, £150 for a weekend or £195 for a three night break.
