The Three Little Pigs is an interactive CD-ROM resource pack that can be used in conjunction with a set of large and small story sequence cards, wooden characters along with a song and music CD. The software achieves its aim of engaging children’s attention and getting them involved in storytelling. ‘The tale of The Three Little Pigs is told in verse and accompanied by clear, colourful pictures that support exploration, stimulate language and encourage children to retell the story interactively. The verse is set to music in a catchy song that will get everyone joining in.’

The CD-ROM provides opportunities to enliven and enhance teaching and learning in the early years and Key Stage 1 leading to development of skills in music, language and literacy.

The software can be used alone or with the resources pack which will need to be purchased separately. It can be used on all interactive whiteboards and has ‘enhanced for SMART’ and ‘Promethean enabled’ accreditation. It can be also be used effectively on stand alone or networked computers.

The guide links all the activities on the CD-ROM to both stepping stones and goals of the Foundation Stage Curriculum and the Key Stage 1 National Curriculum. The CD-ROM certainly brings the story alive allowing very young children to explore the story and join in with the catchy tune on only the second time of hearing it. The children became quickly immersed in the story whilst at the same time learning valuable computer skills. It was a lively way to encourage the use of the computer for those normally not too keen. The CD-ROM activities and songs grabbed the children’s interest and held it for the duration of the sessions.
