Tell A Tale 2

Tell a Tale 2 is a simple to use program which enables children to write a 3 sentence story. It is produced by 4Mation and builds on an earlier version; Tell a Tale. Its purpose is to enable early readers to practice and develop their reading skills using a simple interface. This ensures that IT skills are secondary to reading. The stories have an opening, a location, an actor and an action. Each phrase is spoken and its speed can be altered. The child selects the phrase they wish to use and the chosen phrase is put in a text box to build up their story. The graphics are colourful and animated giving life to the story thus engaging the children in their learning. There are also a series of worksheets which come with the software which could be used in numerous ways.

The program can be networked so it is available to all the users in your school. Once on individual computers, it is easy to set the levels you wish. These are saved so children can use the activity which is ideal to use during the literacy hour in Key Stage 1, or lower Key Stage 2, as it can be used without aid from an adult. The children's work can be played and read back to them by the computer as a movie, or printed out. Tell a Tale 2 could also be used in conjunction with an interactive whiteboard for whole class teaching.

Tell a Tale 2 supports children who are achieving / working towards level 3 in writing. There are three levels of differentiation which the teacher can select according to their judgements of where the child is at. In addition to this there are adjective choices which can also be selected.

This software would be a useful tool to use in the classroom for the rehearsal and development of early reading skills and can be further used to enhance early story writing.
