Deadline: 06/07/2009
The Publishers Association are seeking a primary and a secondary headteacher to present at their AGM in London on Tuesday 7th July 2009 . Schoolzone are offering a payment of £500 to present at the AGM and lunch will be provided (please note that additional travel expenses will not be reimbursed). Speakers will be asked to prepare a presentation that outlines their budget spending priorities and pressures. This will need to be framed in the context of the impact of new government agendas and changes to the curriculum. In addition, attendees will all be commercial publishers so their key focus will be on the impact on resource purchasing. The session will run from 11.30 to circa 14.30 and each headteacher will be required to present for approximately 20 minutes. This will be followed by a 30 minute Q&A session, followed by lunch and an informal chat with publishers. If you are interested in this opportunity, please email lynne@schoolzone.co.uk with a few details about yourself, your school and your experience in the areas outlined above.

Schoolzone would like to invite some of your staff to take part in some consultancy work, telling us about their experiences at Key Stage 3 since the recent changes were announced. Not only will it be useful CPD, where they will find out what other local schools are doing, but we'll pay them £80 to take part. Lunch is also provided. We're looking for teachers with some KS3 responsibility for any one of: English, MFL, Science, RE, ICT, Maths, Geography We would be very grateful if you could forward this to any relevant members of staff. During the afternoon they'll discuss, with around 20 colleagues, approaches to KS3 (or perhaps Y9 start to KS4) and explore what kinds of resources they'd like publishers to develop in order to help them deliver each subject. In the two weeks following the afternoon we'll ask the teachers for some further feedback, taking about an hour of their time. It will be a stimulating afternoon as well as a unique opportunity to work with one of the UK's leading publishers to help develop ideas for new resources for teaching and learning at KS3.

Are you a secondary senior leader, head of maths or head of science? The National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) is carrying out research to look at attitudes to the staffing of science and mathematics departments in secondary schools. NFER will be holding workshops to explore a range of views on the future for teaching physics and mathematics, and to gain insights into current teaching and teacher training, in particular whether there might be a market for a combined physics and mathematics PGCE. We are looking for school senior leaders and heads of maths and science to attend a workshop in York on Friday 10th July, or a workshop in Slough on Wednesday 8th July. The workshops will be interactive and engaging sessions, giving you the opportunity to meet and share ideas with colleagues from other schools as well as initial teacher training providers, offering an excellent CPD opportunity. The feedback that you give will play a significant role in the future development of teacher training provision in science and mathematics. Lunch will be provided on the day, and travel expenses (on the basis of economy fares) will be reimbursed. A contribution to supply cover is also available, if necessary. If you would like to participate in this research, please complete the short eligibility form below.

Consultancy opportunities

We offer excellent commercial rates of pay for freelance and consultancy work: please register an interest (no commitment) by checking the appropriate box at the bottom of the form or call Lynne on 01242 262906 for more details. See case studies for examples of this kind of work.  You'll also need to register (free) to access some areas of the site. Note: these offers are generally only open to UK based people.

Focus groups

Focus groups are group discussions with 6 - 10 participants, run by a Schoolzone moderator. We pay attendees £50 / £60 each to participate in the discussion and we provide refreshments too! Groups run for 2 hours after school (usually starting at 4:30 / 5pm) and are held at a prominent local venue or are held online via an online chatroom.
Focus groups are a great opportunity to get your voice heard and meet other colleagues in your local area. We run groups all across the UK and on a variety of topics. For example a group may review a publisher's advertising material, provide feedback on new product development or discuss the implication of new initiatives that are affecting UK education.

Surveys

For some of our surveys, targeting very specific types of teacher, we sometimes receive fewer than 100 responses, and we STILL give away the prize draws, which may be worth up to £1000. When we notify prize winners, we give them 10 days to claim their prize; if they don’t, we re-run the draw.

You don’t even need to complete a survey to be eligible to win up to £1000. We have a ‘send to a friend’ feature in our online surveys, which means you can forward any one of our surveys to a colleague or friend who works in the appropriate subject area, and for every valid entry submitted by one of your referees, you will be entered into the prize draw.
