Shape Memory Test

Well suited for use in UK schools KS2
Review: This is an online activity from Primary Resources, a website which has a huge array of workseets and other useful teaching and learning materials. This is really an online memory test. Three shapes appear on screen in sequence for a few seconds, then disappear. Pupils have to choose from selected displayed shapes to match the same sequence. This is not difficult as only three shapes have to be remembered. However it might be useful for younger children

Caterpillars

Mainly suitable for:
Well suited for use in UK schools KS1, KS2
Review: A worksheet on which children investigate patterns of numbers. Having been given a caterpillar which follows the rule they are then asked to complete each caterpillar. The rule is that they add 1 to an odd number and halve an even number until the number one is reached. Children are challenged to find the shortest or longest caterpillar when starting with a number under 20. This would be a useful sheet to use when asking children to record results in an investigation. Children could work in pairs to find out what happens with different numbers as starters for the caterpillars. The greatest value would be in sharing results and discussing what they had found out.
