Review: This is a website dedicated to the local history of the Medway area of Kent, featuring information on Rochester Castle and Cathedral, Dover Castle, Canterbury Cathedral and the Tower of London, as well as other sites of historical interest. It is maintained by Paul Hillman, who has a lifelong interest in the subject and who has also written accounts of two medieval sieges, those of 1215 and 1216 at Rochester and Dover castles. A great resource for teachers and pupils.

Review: A good starting place for the History of Roman Britain, in fact there is probably more than you ever wanted to know here! A very good place to start for a teacher new to the topic at either KS2 or KS3. There are list of emperors, links to different Roman sites in Britain – could be used for a local study. There are also lots of images of Roman artifacts that could be used on worksheets or on interactive whiteboards. Lovely maps of Roman Britain also very useful, as well as timelines.

Review: If you teach in the Stoke or North Staffordshire region you will find this site very useful indeed. The Key Dates section gives you a timeline of the development of the potteries – Industrial rev local study in KS3 – Also gives key dates for national developments in Health, the treatment of the poor etc. There are also census transcriptions of the Stoke area which could be used for analysis with pupils. The best bit however is the historic walks around Stoke which would, again be very useful for a local study of the area.

The author, an independent guide, photographer and author, tells many colourful tales from history and records the impressions from over 800 years of Chester's visitors. In addition, there are many photographs, drawings and maps (both contemporary and historical), news of local environmental and planning developments, links to interesting places, and lots of regularly-updated useful information for the scholar, resident and visitor.

Review: This a good site for local history if you study or teach in the Stoke or North Staffs area. But it can also be used by schools further a field as there is also a national interest element to the site. There is a timeline of the development of the Potteries, Biographies of local notaries and a History of Chartism in Stoke. North Staffs Mining is also documented here. The site is pretty basic mainly text. The best part by far is the Walking tours feature.

Review: Part of the bicentennial celebration of the national census. This is an excellent resource for anyone teaching or learning local History in Staffordshire. Can be used as a research tool to find out about the census and therefore the population changes in Staffordshire in the nineteenth century. The Did You Know section can be used by pupils to show statistical data in the form of graphs and bar charts either by hand or transferred to a excel spread sheet to produce computer generated charts for pupil analysis. If pupils click on the census home button hey are taken to the National Statistics home page where lots more statistical data can be viewed. Pupils can then undertake compare and contrast activities with different counties. There is also general information about the census and how it can help historians. Numeracy implications.
