The games are based on the popular television programme Countdown. In the numbers game you choose your numbers by size and then select a target number. You have a choice of having an on screen notepad and calculator. This would be a good game to play on an Interactive Whiteboard. The timer gives you 30 seconds to find the answer, but you do not need to start it straight away so you can give children more time. The letters game is similar; you choose vowels and consonants and then try to make the biggest word. The lesson plan does not appear particularly attractive but nevertheless contains some good approaches to introducing and developing the use of calculators in young children. It´s against the clock so the quicker the answers, the more points scored. The flash cards have five categories- addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and mixed. There are five levels to choose from and three time limits. Answers are entered via an onscreen calculator. An excellent game for children to practise their quick recall of number facts. This can be used independently or as a class with and interactive whiteboard. They are of varying degrees of difficulty. Calculators might be useful for checking the answers the children have found. This resource would be useful for teachers looking for general resources either for topics on word problems or money.
