Review: This page deals with the Norman conquest and offers to download three worksheets that are useful to consolidate the information provided on the corresponding website. It also includes two game activities to test factual information on the topic. Ideal to cover basic aspects of the Norman conquest at this level. Students may find the activities motivating and helpful at the same time.

Nettlesworth Primary School Time Trail

Mainly suitable for:
Well suited for use in UK schools KS2
Review: The Nettlesworth Primary School Time Trail is written by children. It enables visitors to travel through time to various historical periods by clicking on a time line or selecting a topic. Six areas of the curriculum are covered and children could use it to see how other children have presented information for a wider audience on the net. Children could use it to research information about a particular historical period such as the kings and queens of the time, important events, food, daily life and fashion. There are also quiz pages linked to the various themes that would be useful for children to work through at the end of a unit of work as well as web links where children could further extend their knowledge. The site also includes photographs that would be useful when discussing and researching a particular historical topic.

Myths about gods of olden cultures

Mainly suitable for:
Well suited for use in UK schools KS2
Review: This site is dedicated to the Mythology surrounding Egyptian, Saxon, Viking and Roman gods. In each section you will find a list of all the gods and these hyperlink to simple story pages about each of them. The sex and violence in the stories have been toned down for young researchers. The site in itself is quite basic and mostly text although there are some quite good images of the gods. Pupils could be set homework tasks based on the content of this site, after being given a very structured assignment. Also pupils in an ICT context could build a simple database of the gods. They could then devise their own tasks based on the database – quite simple ICT skills from the teacher are needed to successfully complete such an activity.
