Review: Find out about the excellent free learning support services including teacher led visits which include art teaching and handling historical artefacts. The site includes information and photographs of Greek, Roman and Egyptian artefacts.
Review: A website for children about Egypt linked to the main Tour Egypt website. This site is child friendly and would be useful for children studying Ancient Egypt at KS2. There are sections on the History of Egypt, Egyptian Monuments, Ancient Religions, Life in Egypt, Activities and Games and Story Books. There are full-length fictional books and shorter stories about Egyptian animals. You can also write your name in hieroglyphics. Sections of the site are being updated (2005), but there is still plenty of useful information on the site.
Review: This web page is particularl useful for Key Stage 2 children studying Ancient Egypt. It seeks to answer lots of questions related to Ancient Egypt. The issues answered are about the Rosetta Stone ‘Ask the Mummy’ page. There is also information about where the Pharaohs were buried, what happened to the royal mummies, what was the ‘mummy’s curse’, why we excavate, how the works came to the Louvre, how we identified the Pharaohs, where did artists obtain their materials and did the Egyptians worship animals.
Review: King Nebkheperura Tutankhamun remains the most famous of all the Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt. This webpage has detailed information about his life, his treasure, how his tomb was discovered and everyday objects found in the tomb. The text is illustrated with colour photographs and hyperlinks lead to other areas of the site where you can find more information. Review: This site is dedicated to the Mythology surrounding Egyptian, Saxon, Viking and Roman gods. In each section you will find a list of all the gods and these hyperlink to simple story pages about each of them. The sex and violence in the stories have been toned down for young researchers. The site in itself is quite basic and mostly text although there are some quite good images of the gods. Pupils could be set homework tasks based on the content of this site, after being given a very structured assignment. Also pupils in an ICT context could build a simple database of the gods. They could then devise their own tasks based on the database – quite simple ICT skills from the teacher are needed to successfully complete such an activity.
Review: An academic page giving a small selection of black and white Egyptian images and links to a variety of other sites, including journals and articles. Nicely designed but content is limited.
Review: Rivendale Educational Archive. ´What´s New´ dates back to 1997 but links have some interesting information - especially the History links for Ancient Egypt & its Gods - no pictures. The Literature links offer reading lists and tips for all ages. This site has been moved.
