Review: An impressive collection of Numeracy related games, puzzles, teaching tools and resources that are ideal for class and group teaching or for children working alone. The activities have been made by adults and children from Ambleweb school. The teaching tools are an excellent resource for using on an interactive whiteboard. For example the tools contained in the ‘Teaching Angles’ section are so visually attractive and simple that they make it easy to teach a lesson on estimating angles and then measuring the angle to see who had the nearest guess. This would not be as effective if a teacher used only a large protractor and had drawn an angle on the board. Teachers of all age groups can find resources here – number lines, number squares, graphs, clocks, games where children can practice skills, interactive geometry tools and interactive maths quizzes. An excellent site to support teachers in embedding ICT into the maths curriculum.

Review: A resource available on the excellent Primary Resources website. The shape target board contains 20 different shapes. Target Boards are used in the classroom to encourage speaking and listening in maths. The children could be asked to identify different shapes, pick out all the regular or irregular shapes or talk about angles or sides of shapes. When talking about the shapes the children are encouraged to use mathematical language and explain their reasoning. The Target Board could be displayed using a projector or interactive whiteboard to make it easier for the children to see.

This worksheet reinforces chidrens ability to identify right angles in 2D shapes. There are several shapes drawn on this sheet. Pupils have to colour in the shapes differentcolours depending on how many right angles they have. If they have no right angles at all they are to be coloured a different colour. There is a variety of shapes displayed here, some are regular whilst others are irregular shapes.

Identifying 3D shapes

Mainly suitable for:
Well suited for use in UK schools KS2
Review: This a clever interactive maths game for Key Stage 2 that has been designed by Gareth Pitchford for primaryresources.co.uk. The activity is used to reinforce 3D shape knowledge it requires the children to identify different 3D shapes in a variety of contexts and positions. I like this because the shapes are turned on a variety of angles which develops spatial awareness and the game keeps a running score. This activity is designed to be used onscreen or on an IWB. This is part of a series of interactive games from primary resources.co.uk and there are some great links here to other interactive activities.
