Again

Mainly suitable for:
Well suited for use in UK schools KS2
Review: Again and Again is an investigation involving decimals and fractions. A knowledge of the equivalence of decimals and fractions is needed. The investigation also requires the pupil to make generalisations; this could be done algebraically using words or formulae. The activity could also be used as an ICT activity using a spreadsheet to carry out the calculations again and again.

Colour Mathematics

Mainly suitable for:
KS2, KS3, KS4 , Post 16, Undergraduate, Postgraduate
Review: This is a very large site which explores the link between colour and maths. It is not the easiest site to navigate but it is worth persevering as there are some interesting ideas. In addition to the argument put forward that colour can aid mathematical learning, there is a wide range of programs and other software that can be downloaded from the site which might well be useful in schools. The site is geared towards more advanced students but there are activities that might be suitable for younger children. There is also an impressive maths picture gallery containg many colourful geometrical and matematical patterns. This is an unusual website that is worth looking at. It does contain some interesting activities but it is quite hard to find what you are looking for! Beware of the American spelling and links to non national curriculum maths.

Welcome to BasketMath Interactive Learning

Mainly suitable for:
KS2, KS3, KS4 , Post 16
Review: Science Academy Software develops educational software including interactive online software for applying technology in the classroom, at work, or at home. BasketMath V3 is a mathematics test in a basketball game format. The object of the game is for the home team to score more points than the visiting team, while completing a mathematics test. It is designed for children aged seven and upwards and covers the four rules, verbal reasoning, fractions, decimals and algebra. An online version called BasketMath Interactive can be played in English or Spanish for free but as there is no control over the sums presented on screen or any level given it would not have much use as a school activity.
