This is a super flexible tool that can be used from nursery right upto year 6. It works like a function machine you can choose your starting number from 0-10, 0-20 or 0-50 whats great is you can type in any starting number. The second level of this super tool is that you can choose the steps for the counting to go up in as well from random computer generated options 0-10, 0-20 and 0-50 and again you can manually choose any step. The machine also allows you to hide the start number and steps. This would work fantastically on an interactive whiteboard. Though simple it is bold and colourful and lends itself well to individual skill practice on a computer or for use on a large screen or interactive whiteboard by a group or whole class for addition. It can be set to three different levels, enabling the lesson to be differentiated for different children. The simplest level adds single digit numbers, level two adds tens and level three adds hundreds. It would make a good starter to practice adding mentally or could be used as part of the main teaching activity. Children could predict the answers, write them on individual whiteboards or be chosen to write the answer on screen. Opportunities could be given to discuss how the answer was arrived at. A good way of generating additions quickly in a colourful way without preparation. The game requires you to input the first of three consecutive numbers that add upto a target number. After you have input the first number you set the rocket in to orbit and you get feedback. The great thing about this game is it has three levels and the numbers are generated at random so there are lots of possibilities! This activity is designed to be used onscreen or on an IWB. It is an excellent game to use when teaching children to problem solve and investigate numbers. The idea is to find ways of using 4 numbers to match a target number exactly. You don't have to use all the numbers - but you can use each number only once. You can add, subtract, multiply, divide and even put them together. There are different levels and each will vary the number of signs you can use and the choice of digits will be reduced to increase the difficulty. A teacher could introduce the activity on an interactive whiteboard or even an ordinary board, explaining how the game works. Children could then play as a class, discussing what to choose and why certain numbers would not work, or they could play in pairs or individually on individual computers. Based on the popular series, BBC Numbertime. This page has ten number worksheets to print out based on ladders, the children have to add on or take away numbers to fill in the gaps in the ladder. The worksheet has a numberline at the bottom to help with counting. The teacher’s area has an explanation on how to use the worksheets.
