Aimed at: This course is aimed at teachers in both primary and secondary schools.
Entry requirements: None – no experience of animation, or film making and editing is required.
Course details: Stop-motion animation is an exciting, engaging and highly rewarding medium which can be used to support literacy and other areas of the curriculum in primary and secondary settings.
Stop motion animation is an alternative to filmmaking as it can be undertaken within the bounds of the classroom and requires minimal equipment.
This one day course is very practical, with lots of hands-on opportunities to practise the skills covered. It is designed to enable all teachers to quickly and easily acquire the skills to use stop-motion animation, like any other tool in the teacher’s repertoire, to enhance the curriculum.
Stop-motion animation is accessible to a wide range of children and students. It allows them to express themselves across a range of subjects. It is a particularly useful tool to engage learners who may not respond to a more traditional range of stimuli. Using stop motion animation focuses the learner’s initial attention upon a novel, new and exciting activity. Once fully engaged pupils will access the learning that is layered throughout the activity.
The course looks at the practical and financial aspects of using animation in school. The course provides participants with information on affordable hardware and software solutions that are easy to use.
Included within the cost of the course is an animation kit to take back to school which will comprise a copy of the software “I Can Animate” and a webcam.
Participants do not need to bring their own equipment with them as all equipment for use during the practical sessions of the course is provided. Method of Tuition: Tutor-led practical and theoretical sessions. Course Objectives: Participants will
- Gain an understanding of the simple and easy to use process of stop motion animation.
- Gain the skills to enable them to use stop motion animation within school.
- Explore how stop motion animation can support the development of the curriculum.
- Be able to show that digital technology can be a powerful conduit for self expression and creativity.

3 DAY COURSE:
26 June 2013, 27 June 2013, 28 June 2013
OTHER DATES ARE AVAILABLE Topic: Developing inspection and self-evaluation skills: A three day course for headteachers, deputy and assistant heads, and senior leaders.
Aimed at: Headteachers, deputy headteachers, and senior managers in primary and secondary Schools
Course details: Based on the new inspection schedule, updated to include relevant national developments, the three-day course helps senior managers develop inspection and evaluation skills. It covers most aspects of school self-evaluation and gives examples of good practice.
Course Objectives: • Understanding the new inspection schedule and the likely impact of relevant new national developments. • Using audit, evaluation, and inspection trails (learning walks) to diagnose strengths, weaknesses, and priorities for improvement. • Making accurate judgements from a range of evidence. • Sharpen data analysis and progress tracking skills (including RAISE online, FFT, and other school performance data). • Using and improving quality assurance systems. • Observing lessons accurately and effectively and recording findings. • Work sampling efficiently and effectively. • Evaluating and developing self-evaluation systems. • Communicating self-evaluation findings, including high quality oral and written communication, and feedback to various stakeholders. • Identifying strengths and weaknesses and planning for improvement.
Method of Tuition: The course lasts three days and is a mix of direct tuition and skill based learning involving tasks, case study materials, and homework. The practical activities are mainly completed in groups of two or three participants so that thoughts and evaluations can be shared and compared. Each day has five hours of tuition, divided into four blocks of 1.25 hours.
Tutor: Bruce McAlpine has managed the Company for 17 years. He writes and develops training materials and tutors many of the courses. His specialist areas include English, mathematics, art, the Foundation Stage, educational management, special educational needs, and English as an additional language. He has an excellent track record as a trainer. Feedback: • “The best Headteacher training event I have attended in a very long time- relevant and enjoyable”. • “Just to say that I thought the Ofsted Inspection Skills training was excellent ... I was unsure whether I could afford 3 whole days out of school but I'm glad that I did as I learnt a lot”. • “I wondered if you would be kind enough to pass on a sincere note of thanks to Bruce McAlpine. I attended his 3 day course in May of this year and worked hard to implement many of the suggestions, especially the multifilter trackers for subjects. At the end of June we were given an outstanding judgement by Ofsted! This is in no small measure due to the superb training I received on the course. As a result, I am now supporting not only my school, but also another local school in difficulty- this is because of the skills gained from the course- many thanks again,” • “Outstanding- by far the best course I have been on since started teaching- this should be included as part of NPQH! Thank you!”. To view a full course description and the session time table please visit the PBM website This course is available as school based or cluster based training. This course fulfils OFSTED's 'safeguarding' criteria including training and risk assessments for food technology lessons. Our qualified trainer will enable you to achieve specialist food health and safety accreditation and the level 2 food safety certificate in one day. Accreditation lasts for 5 years.
